Student Experience

EDI & Learning Support Services

CCT College Dublin is keen to ensure that all students experience equality of opportunity in reaching their educational potential and we welcome applications from students with disabilities, learning difficulties or long term illnesses. We offer a wide range of educational support which can be arranged by registering with the CCT Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office. If you have a physical disability, sensory impairment, mental health issue, chronic medical condition or specific learning difficulty, which you feel may affect your ability to study effectively, our EDI Office is here to support you. Below we have listed the number of ways in which the College supports its students. We endeavour to ensure that all reasonable efforts are made to assist all students.

Exam support
Special arrangements can be made for examinations when students are registered with the EDI Office and have provided supporting medical documentation. Students will be informed of which supports they are entitled to avail of by the EDI Officer following a needs assessment. These arrangements can include:

  • Extra time
  • Use of a laptop
  • Use of a private room
  • A reader
  • A scribe
  • Alternate format for exam papers
  • A spelling waiver

In Class Support
Lecture notes and slides can be made available to students in advance of classes. They can also be produced in alternative formats. Audio recordings and transcripts of classes are made available on moodle. Where students have given consent, teaching staff will be informed of any special needs requirements to participate fully in classes.

Academic and Group Support
Extra help is available for students who feel they need support in developing third level academic skills such as participating in group work, referencing, essay planning, academic writing and research skills. Additional tutorial classes are run on a regular basis through our “Essentials” suite of extra curricular supports. Peer Mentoring support classes are available each semester.

One to one Support
Additional One to One support classes may be arranged with lecturers and assistant lecturers. Student mentoring support classes are also available. CCT College provides access to fully subsidised professional counselling services for all students. Our counselling services are provided by professionally-registered and qualified counselling psychologists.

Assistive Technology
The CCT library and the CCT Student Hub provide a range of assistive technology tutorials on accessibility features including assistive technology tools for Windows, MacOS and Chrome plus applications on Google Workspace and Office 365. Microsoft and Google applications are available on all CCT Library laptops.

Many books in the library’s collection are also available as eBooks. Once downloaded the eBooks can be played as audio books, text can be enlarged and they can be used with screen readers available on Office 365 and Google Workspace.

Many of the Journal articles that are accessed through the library website can also be downloaded as an HTML or PDF document and played as an audio file.

Each of the CCT lecture rooms is fitted with an Induction loop to assist hearing impaired students.

Quiet Spaces
Quiet spaces are available for student use in our basement area. Quiet Pods are soundproof spaces which are available for students to use. The ‘Retreat’ is a dedicated quiet space equipped with various sensory objects, adjustable lighting and access to relaxing sounds, visuals and music. We also have a new student recreational quiet lounge area called ‘The Pump Room’.

Autism&Uni Toolkit
CCT College Dublin was delighted and honoured to be recognised as an Autism Friendly HEI, by Ireland’s national autism charity – AsIAm in October 2024. This award is a milestone development in a never-ending journey for CCT to enhance our student experience and our universal accessibility. As part of this commitment CCT have engaged with Autism&Uni a research initiative funded by the European Union and continued by Leeds Beckett University, under the leadership of Dr Marc Fabri.

The toolkit was developed to work with young people on the autism spectrum to help them navigate the transition from school into Higher Education (HE). The goal of the toolkit is to alleviate anxiety and provide clear guidance on various aspects of college life. Students and potential students can use it in their own time, do research about issues concerning them, and come back to it when particular difficulties arise.
