2014 Jobs Plan to have emphasis on ICT sector, shortage of programming training

A special Cabinet meeting on February 6 focussed on the 2014 Action Plan for Jobs which is due to be announced next month.

In response to a skills gap in the ICT sector, Ireland aims to have the highest percentage of computing graduates as a proportion of all tertiary graduates by 2018.

Speaking on his way into the meeting, Education Minister Ruairi Quinn said this plan will have a special emphasis on the ICT sector, and “There is a worldwide shortage of computer programming training and ICT, general digital skills”.
