A new study has revealed that UK universities have the lowest ever percentage of females enrolled in computing degrees, making up just 18% of students enrolled in computing courses in 2014-2015.

This compares to the 19% that graduated from computing degrees last academic year and 20% the year before.

In addition, according to a recent study from employer body The Tech Partnership, just 16% of the IT industry is made up of women and the gender gap is worsening.

The University of Ulster in Northern Ireland reported the highest enrollment rates with 2,391 students on its computing courses, of which 26% are female.

In the republic of Ireland, approximately 15% of computing students are female.

The College of Computer Training is proud that approximately 31% of its computing students are female, nearly double the UK and Irish averages, and is actively seeking new and innovative ways if attracting more female students to ICT.
