Who?
The College of Computer Training (CCT), is an independent HETAC and FETAC accredited college specialising in the provision of Computing and Information Communications Technology education and training from Level 4 to Level 9 – Basic level to Masters level
CCT is located at 30-34 Westmoreland St., Dublin 2, in the very heart of Dublin city centre.
What?
CCT is delighted to provide CCT funded Taster Computing courses targeted at 5th and 6th year secondary school students in Ireland, during the coming summer holidays over July and August 2012, and for subsequent holidays periods. There will be three main courses over the summer 2012 period, covering the following fundamental areas of the Computing sector, and three of the main streams featured in most Bachelors programmes in Computing, and taught in a practical, industry focussed fashion:
- Computer Programming
- Web Design
- Computer Networking
This programmes will lead to FETAC Level 5 component certificates in each area, for successful graduates!
Why?
It is no secret that the ICT sector is one of the main growth areas in Ireland at present. With some of the world’s largest multinational ICT corporations, operating their European headquarters in Ireland such as, Ireland is fast becoming a global Computing hub!
A significant number of government reports, including all of the latest Forfas, FAS, ESRI, and IDA reports, highlight the shortage of ICT skilled graduates qualifying from higher education institutions in Ireland. Many secondary school students have no exposure to Computer Science modules or learning at second-level in Ireland, and they can have false expectancies and get a shock in first year at third-level in relation to some of the fundamental subjects involved in Computer Science. Indeed some of the Irish Universities and other Higher Education Institutes in Ireland, report a general drop-out rate of 42% after year 1 of a Bachelors in Computing programme. CCT believes that there is a requirement at secondary level in Ireland for Computing and Information Technology courses, to help prepare interested students who want to pursue higher education programmes in the field of Computing and Information Technology.
How Much?
CCT is providing Taster Courses for Secondary Schoolers free of charge! This is part of our investment into your future, and the future of ICT in Ireland.
