Course Audience
This full-time programme is ideal for any learner with an interest and motivation to embark on a Computing career, specifically within the area of Software Development. It provides a strong introductory foundation to Software Development and Computer Games design. No pre-requisite knowledge of Software Development is required to commence this course, but any previous knowledge, skills or competence in the area would be advantageous.

Course Overview
The overall aim of this programme leading to the award of Diploma for Software Developers, is to provide its learners with the necessary theoretical and practical skills, knowledge and competence, to gain a comprehensive introductory foundation and understanding of the area of Software Development. It is envisioned that graduates will be able to fulfil a wide range of entry-level roles within this area, and/or engage in further study in a wide range of areas within Programming and Software Development at undergraduate level and specifically progressing onto the City & Guilds Advanced Diploma of Software Developers.

The achievement of this aim requires that the following general objectives of this qualification are met:
 
1. To meet the needs of candidates who work or want to work as software developers or computer games designers, or be prepared for their first management position within a team of software designers in the ICT sector.
2. Allow candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression within the sector.

 

3. Contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the related areas within the ICT field.
4. A key outcome of the programme is to produce graduates who can work effectively as individuals, in teams and in multidisciplinary settings by recognising the need to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide variety of areas with the industry.
5. To make the candidates aware of the need to continually maintain and refresh their knowledge and expertise, particularly in the rapidly changing Computing and IT industry. Once they have completed this course of study, the graduate should recognise the need to pursue Continuing Professional Development (CPD), demonstrating a capacity to undertake lifelong learning.
6. To develop the ability of the candidates to be logical and creative in their problem solving approach.
7. Provide valuable accreditation of knowledge, skills and competence at a specialised level without requiring or proving occupational competence.
8. To offer a more specialised, advanced progression route onto the Diploma of Software Developers.

Course Content

This programme is delivered over 2 academic semesters, 1 academic year:

Semester 1

Develop Designs and Test Software Components
Requirements Analysis and Systems Specifications
Develop Software using SQL
Designing and Creating Advanced Web Sites

Semester 2

Designing and Creating Relational Databases
Creating and Designing Websites Using Web Animation and Web Graphics
Develop Software using C++
Develop Software using Java

Assessment
CCT will utilise a variety of assessment methods to help ensure that the learning outcomes of each subject will be achieved, for example: Written Examination compiled of long or short term essays, Objective Tests, Presentations, Group Projects, Practical Assignments, Oral Examinations and so on. Assessment will be continuous throughout each module, with final examinations administered in most of the modules.

Accreditation
This programme is awarded by the globally recognised awarding body, City & Guilds. This programme is also included on the Irish Dept of Education & Science, Internationalisation Register.

One academic year.
CCT usually commences full-time programmes over 3 intakes per year: February, May and September. Please contact CCT directly for the next Commencement date

Course Fees
Please contact the college directly to ascertain the course fees. Medical insurance for Non-EU nationals is compulsory and as part of the Irish Student Visa requirements and can be arranged by CCT for an additional fee of EUR160 for 12 months.
